Day 4: The No-Sew Golden Clutch

Phew this series is flying by! Today is Day 4 and is one of my favorite gifts! I may just keep this one for myself- it’s a NO-SEW Golden Clutch and it’s fab, darlin’!

It just requires some shiny material of your choice, some velcro dots and some Fabric Glue!

I love roll clutches- just for their simplicity and this one really hits the spot. It’s almost like a lunchbox clutch, if you will!

Okay so to start, you’ll need to grab some fabric of your choice. I found this shiny gold leatherish fabric at my local craft store and the instant I saw it I knew a clutch would be perfect. You’ll also want to pick up a bottle of Liquid Stitch! It’s greeeat stuff! Especially if you want to just pull together something small, like this clutch.

Cut your fabric into a rectangle- mine was about 11 inches long x 8 inches wide. You’re going to fold your fabric in half (the fold will be the bottom). The pic below shows what it will look like after.

Once you’ve cut your fabric into the rectangle, add a line of even glue to the top edge (the shorter edge). It just so happened that my top edge was a frayed edge.

Fold it over and hold it down until it’s dry.

Do the same for the opposite end. Glue, fold, dry.

Now that you have both short edges folded over, you have to add glue to the sides. These are the long sides.

With the gold part facing each other, add a line of glue down one side and press evenly. Make sure your line is straight because that will be making the side edge. Do the same with the other side. Since the shiny part will not dry quickly, it’s best to stack some heavy books on it and leave it overnight.

The next day it should be dry and look similar to this!

All glued it should look like this.

Now, carefully pull it inside out and with a pen poke out the side edges.

This is what it should look like!

Now we do the velcro part.

Grab your velcro dots and determine how many folds you are going to want. I decided on two folds so that I could fit enough things in my clutch. If you want a skinnier clutch, you can do three folds.

Now grab your velcro dots- make sure that you have one pair stuck together.

Add the pair to the top of one side of your clutch. Turn it around and fold one fold down so that it looks like below.

Now go ahead and roll one more fold down. Two folds in total. It should look like this. Press down so that all velcro dots stick well.

Now, open it back up. You should have one set of dots around this area of the bag and…

if you turn it around it should look this!

Tadaa!!

That’s it! A simple no-sew golden clutch that can be dressed up or down.

It has a lot of room for your phone and wallet so it works great! You can def embellish it as well! And since it’s so easy and fast you can make several at once!

So there you go- stay tuned for the rest of the 12 days of Handmade Gifts!
