5 verses to stay afloat on a Monday

I don’t know about you but Mondays are a really hard day for me. Maybe it’s all the pressure of it being the first day of the week, or just the idea that I have four more days before the weekend and I reaaaaally don’t want to get started on my work, ugh. The combination of tiredness and lack of motivation (and sometimes just downright sleepiness) can really put a damper on otherwise a pretty great day. So, I pulled together 5 verses for such a day as this. If you’re feelin’ pretty great and whistling in traffic, or if you’re dragging your feet on this messy Monday these verses can be a really helpful reminder of just how amazing our God is and perhaps turn your frown upside down

1. Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:23-24

This is one verse that I have to constantly remind myself of- I don’t work for XYZ, I work for the Lord, so even if I’m just making copies, or if I’m giving a huge presentation, either way it’s all for the Lord! Don’t let your boss or your coworkers take that from you. Just remember whom you work for and keep going.

2. And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. 1 John 5:14-15

This verse is for those that are maybe seeking a promotion, help with a difficult assignment or maybe even a new job- ASK the Lord! As the verse says, we have the confidence that he hears and responds to our petitions as simple or as complex as they may be. So if you are struggling at work with something beyond your control, ask God about it. And don’t be surprised when you hear an answer.

3. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Sometimes Mondays can be especially hard if we are anxious and afraid in our jobs. Not in the sense that you’re in danger, but you might be afraid of failure or of accomplishing all the tasks ahead of you. But the Lord says, be STRONG and COURAGEOUS. Remember who goes with you wherever you are at work, in your cubicle or at the meetings you attend and the events you plan. Take heart in this, you are not alone.

4. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Now this verse is hard for me to swallow. I can get anxious about so many things and I often do. But this verse says, whether it’s something small like” oh man I forgot to send that email”, or something huge like, “should I begin to look for a new job?”, we must talk everything over with the Lord. Our hearts can get filled with doubt and fear, but the Lord gives us peace that will calm all anxiety.

5. This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

This oldie but goodie is as simple as it sounds. God has made this day, so whether it is Monday or Friday, we must rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s not forget to be thankful that we have a job and a place to be on a Monday morning.

That’s it for this wet and cold President’s Day! I hope you all have a great week and stay warm (or cool, depending on this crazy Texas weather)!
