My space-saving, tiny living, Wall Bed!
When I first realized that I’d actually have to move back home to my parent’s house, I freaked out! Not JUST because moving back is a hard thing to do (albeit a great money saving strategy) but because I was like, OMG how am I going to fit a whole APARTMENT into a tiny room?! NOT possible! And you’re right, it was not possible! I sold most of my furniture, my faux fireplace faux fireplace mantel, my BED FRAME, I mean all of it. But before actually moving in, I had a good conversation with my dad and we decided that a murphy or wall bed was going to be the best answer to such a tiny room.
I searched all over the place online and found that the beds already built were actually very expensive. Nice, but expensive. So in true Cari fashion, I was like, We can make it! DIY to the rescue! Online you can find the metal parts of the bed and all you have to do afterwards is add the wood that you’ll use and assemble it. I ordered from HERE. It sounds easy enough, and it is, BUT my poor dad did have some mishaps with it. This is my tribute post to his awesomenesss! So it’s a simple enough concept. You just pull….
And pull…
And then you bring the bar over to form the legs.
Can I just say- this was the best idea ever!!! It really is the BIGGEST space saver. Because of the wall bed, I was able to keep one tiny little couch and basically turn my room into a tiny living room- almost like a small studio apartment!
The bed is still a work in progress. There are still lots of parts to paint as you can see. I also have to figure out what to do with the blank wall! I need a faux headboard that won’t be too thick when I close the bed up.
But that’s pretty much it! In the mornings I just tuck the sheets in on the sides and hike it up- instant space! I would most definitely suggest this for a guest room or an office that turns into a guest room. The easiest way to take advantage of a small room.
If you can, definitely do this project DIY. BUT get help! My dad did this on his own mostly, and since it’s actually a large piece of furniture he did get hurt at one point 🙁 When it got time to mount it to the wall he enlisted the help of my bro and grandpa.
Look at him go!
I’m excited to see how I can transform the front of the bed too. We gave it a coat of primer, but that’s it. I was thinking that I could make it look like a faux wardrobe, or maybe give it a fun paint job on the front almost like a huge mural. Right now it’s just that white primer like the rest of the room, but it blends in really nice. I definitely want to change the hardware on it too!
Next week I’ll have a whole room tour so that you can really see how much space it saves and how you can make a tiny room work for you! Happy FRIDAY!
