Christmas and Clutter
Wow! Since it’s been so many days full of gifts and lots of DIY’s I decided I’d better take a quick break to just breathe. This past weekend I was finally taking it a little slow after having just taken a trip and rushed around with handmade gifts and some holiday shopping- but while I was trying to relax I noticed something that comes often with the season. Clutter- LOTS of Clutter!
I’m a rather cluttery person anyway until it just creeps up on me and I can’t stand it anymore. That’s when I get a large trashbag and fill it up with things (mostly clothes) that I am SO ready to give away. I looked around my room and realized that I have WAY TOO much and don’t NEED hardly half of it. I suck at actually choosing what I do need though 🙁
So with a little research I found a few books that might help the process along. If anything, they might birth a new energy in me to go on a decluttering journey in the new year.
Starting with:
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing
If anyone knows how to be tidy- it’s gotta be the Japanese, right?? I had a friend recommend this book. I just like the thought about reading how other cultures handle a basic human instinct - wanting more and more!
This is what the back cover says:
Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).
SOUNDS AWESOMEEEE!!
Next is:
Organize Your Home: Clutter Cures for Every Room (Better Homes and Gardens)
I love anything that Better Homes and Gardens does but a book that has tips and tricks for every room?! Um, yes please! I just have to remember not to go out and buy more shelving for my stuff…i think that may defeat the purpose lol
And last is this one that looks intriguing:
Organizing Plain and Simple: A Ready Reference Guide With Hundreds Of Solutions to Your Everyday Clutter Challenges
Sometimes I don’t really want to read the why, I just need the HOW! And this reference guide book looks like it’ll do that trick!
So- I know that decluttering might be the last thing on your mind this holiday season, but it’ll pop up as soon as the New Year hits! Make sure to grab at least one of these books to get you going right. Happy Monday!
