5 Ways to refresh your home (for cheap!)
Hi!
So as a way to continue this month’s theme, I decided that I needed to bring some inspiration to my place, a little refreshment if you will. Not wanting to spend too much money I opted for easy, doable and cheap ideas to make my space feel renewed. These are 5 ways to refresh your home - quick tips that anyone can do in a weekend!
1. Declutter
1. Declutter
This one may seem like a no brainer, but the first thing to do is actually de-clutter. Go through those old papers, the books and clothes and pull out everything you don’t want/use anymore. Recycle all those papers, or scan and keep a copy of them on your computer and recycle the hard copy. De-cluttering is a great way to make space in your home AND in your mind. I’m not sure why, but it even frees up space in our minds so that we’re able to focus on other things, like our mid-year resolutions -wink-wink-.
2. Rearrange something
2. Rearrange something
We get so used to seeing our furniture in certain ways that we don’t feel inspired anymore. Now is a great time to rearrange your furniture, move a bookshelf or rotate your bed. Although it may be the same furniture, rearranging it brings a change that looks fresh and makes us feel refreshed. Try adding a new focal point in the living room. For example, if your focal point was your TV, try pointing your furniture toward the fireplace now, or toward each other as a conversational area. If you are nervous about this type of change or don’t want to haul around furniture before realizing that you hate it, try out this awesome 3D Room Styler site. It enables you to put your furniture in and visualize what it’ll look like without having to do any heavy lifting! Take it from someone who has lots of furniture and very little muscle 🙂
3. Paint something
3. Paint something
Changing a color palette always tricks our brains into thinking things are new. Try painting one piece of furniture with a bright color, or changing a bright colored piece to a neutral color. It’ll look different and actually make you feel like you have a new piece in your collection. I did this with a piece I bought at a thrift store and it made a world of a difference! I’ve got a tutorial on it that you can check out here.
4. Change out your pillows and frames
4. Change out your pillows and frames
This one may not seem drastic, but it is! Buy new covers for your couch pillows and it’ll seem like you changed the color scheme in your living room. I have found that several stores sell throw pillows with removable inserts. Stores like TJ Maxx or even IKEA sell covers on their own so that you won’t have to buy tons of pillows, just new covers. You can also try switching out the pictures in your frames or changing the frames all together. Small collective changes add to a big overall impact.
5. Trade out decorative pieces

And add potted plants! If you are used to having a fruit bowl in the kitchen and a candle set in the living room, try swapping the two. A fruit bowl with similar colored fruit in the living room can tie together a color scheme and candles in the kitchen can add warmth. Or clean off your coffee table décor and gather pieces from around your house to bring newness to your area. Adding plants will always bring vigor and energy to any space.
Aaaand that’s it for today folks! Like I said, easy - peasy ways to make a place feel brand new! What are you gonna try first this weekend, hmm???
